Health and Healing:
Health, heal, whole, holistic, and holy all come from the same old Germanic
word root, hael, so they all have something special in common, namely
a sense of wholeness that relates to the perfection of the universe.
There is more than just body here; more than mind and body
there
is something spiritual to all of this. Health has a sense of soundness
about it, as in sound of body and mind. It is more than just the absence
of disease. Indeed, it can't be defined in terms of any disease. We
should never define it in terms of disease; that would be like saying
that love is the absence of fear. Rather, if we look at it from the
opposite way and say that disease is the absence of health, we can say
that healing is the process of moving toward health. (Just as we can
say that love is letting go of fear.)
The Center4 Health and Healing© asks us to change the way we look at
ourselves from generally trying to find "What's Wrong" to
always looking for "What's Right". When we do, "What's
Wrong" simply becomes an impasse, a roadblock, to our process of
healing. If "What's Wrong" is in our face, we can treat it
as if it were a person. We can ask "What's Wrong" to show
us the way to "What's Right". Successful people throughout
time have known that "What's Wrong" always gives up and shows
us how to get around it to "What's Right". Indeed, this is
one of the best ways to understand success.
The spiritual aspect of this process is that "What's Wrong"
doesn't exist in the universe. If it did, there would be no universe
at all, and that would include you and me. No, friends, the universe
is "What's Right" and always is. It's our little self, our
egos, that create "What's Wrong". Our larger, spiritual self,
known by many names the world over, is "What's Right". A huge
piece of healing happens when "What's Wrong," starts listening
to "What's Right".
When this happens, we start feeling better. We find out that our bodies
are connected to our minds through more than just our actions and our
physical feelings
through our emotions, too. Feelings of all kinds
are essential to health and life. There's a very rare genetic condition
of being born without pain fibers
of being unable to feel physical
pain. It is a fatal condition with very few of those born with it living
to their thirties! Similarly, having no emotional feelings dooms most
to early, usually violent, death. We are aware of the impacts that emotions
have on our health. Anger and fear are very useful for keeping us alive
in the face of danger. (It's called the "fight or flight response".)
Excitement stimulates our brains to increased creativity. Happiness
eases pain. Joy stimulates the immune system. They are all healthy emotions.
Overuse of anger and fear can have harmful effects on the heart and
immune systems, respectively. The Center4 Health and Healing teaches
us how to transform anger and fear before they do harm. It teaches us
how to choose between our emotions.
The Center4 Health and Healing also helps us with a vitally important
part of our healing process, discovering our core passion. A quarter-century
of working in medicine and surgery with human development tools has
shown me that finding one's core passion starts a chain of events that
affects the body-mind in a vitally healthy way. I've seen people with
all kinds of serious and even life-threatening disease put their problem
behind them by finding and developing that core passion. It is in everybody,
and unique to everyone, making the difference between identical twins,
for instance.
The way we've been living, driven by our "What's Wrong," suppresses
the core passion because it makes other "What's Wrongs" jealous,
and they act cruelly out of their fear of each other. When we can discover
our "What's Right" self, we can let go of our fear and separation
and acknowledge our core passion. "What's Right" is the essence
of who we are. It knows its universal nature, and that knowledge leads
us to our spirituality. It is our soul, and nurturing our core passion
nurtures our soul.
So, friends, we have a physical body, a mind that directs it through
action and emotions, a soul that carried our core passion, and a spirit
that is the connection to the entire universe. Health is being a whole
of the four and healing is the process of moving toward and maintaining
health. The purpose of The Center4 Health and Healing is to bring people
into that process and to move toward its ultimate goal. To that end,
it uses the four services of its parent organization, H.O.P.E., Healing
Of Persons Exceptional and the Grail Quest Counseling coaching skills
of the founder of H.O.P.E., Ken Hamilton, MD.
