The content of the Social Responsibility (SR) curriculum
provides you with SR topics, concepts and activities. Three on-line
activities are on-line for your use. Two activities are for individuals
who wish to explore and document their intentions and actions related
to Social Responsibility. The third activity is a curriculum input form
for teachers to share activities they are implementing in their classrooms.
For
Students: Select one of the
SR Topics. From the list of concepts and activities, create a list of
questions that you will use in interviews with your parents, teachers,
neighbors, community members, and peers. From these interviews determine
levels of valuing and involvement of each group. Analyze this information
and develop your personal action plan for implementing your involvement
with SR issues.
For Parents: Review the content of each
topic. Evaluate your personal intentions and involvement in each of the
activity areas. Create a list from your evaluation. Discuss this list
with your children. Develop a family action plan that encourages
active involvement of all family members. Through this process, parents
will be able to heighten the awareness and involvement of their children
in issues related to social responsibility.
For Counselors: Review
each of the SR topics. Select the topics, concepts and activities that
can best be applied to your existing guidance and counseling curriculum.
Incorporate these ideas into your program activities. Assign students
to create a group action plans for moving these concepts from intention
to action.
For Teachers: Many
of these topics, concepts and activities of the SR curriculum relate easily
to existing subject areas. Use these concepts as a guide for more conscious
integration of SR related activities into what you teach. Review the input
form for sharing SR classroom/community activities. Use this form as a
template for creating activities.
A Final Word: As we enter the 21st century, we
will be witnessing many cultural and technological changes. As we participate
in this change process, we need to know who we are and what we value.
Hopefully, the SR curriculum will help you with this process.
